Senior Warden Moments
I had the opportunity to study at St. George’s Episcopal College in Jerusalem this past September. One of our field trips took us to Bethlehem, to visit the traditional spot where Christ was born. While we were waiting to be called down to the grotto, our small group sat in the church pews upstairs, quietly meditating and wondering what exactly it was we would see.
It is quite possible that Jesus was born in a cave rather than a stable, and the steps led down to a very small cavern where a star on the stone floor marked the spot where tradition tells us the birth took place. This was so different from what I had imagined! Stories of "no room at the inn" and pictures of manger nativity scenes flashed through my head and collided with the reality of this cold cave floor on which I stood. When my mind cleared, what I was left with was simply a young Mother and Father giving thanks to God for the delivery of a healthy baby boy. I imagined the love that shone from that spot, radiating out like a light to the nations: pure and simple love. May we all come to know and share in the joy of that purest love this Christmas!

A Holy Land Blessing
May the babe of Bethlehem… bring you peace.
May the child of Nazareth… bring you joy.
May the man of Galilee…bring you strength.
May the Christ of Calvary… bring you courage.
May the risen Jesus… bring you hope.
And the ascended Christ…a foretaste of his glory.
